Got Food...Message from AFGE Natiional President J. David Cox
Every night, millions of Americans go to bed hungry. With millions of Americans out of work and even more at jobs that don’t pay enough, food is quickly becoming a luxury for working families. Even in the richest country in the world, more and more families are going hungry every day.
Here’s how you can help. This Saturday, May 10, help us stamp out hunger by leaving cans or boxes of unperishable food by your mailbox – the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will collect the food and distribute the goods to local food banks and pantries.
The NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Last year, 74.4 million pounds of food were collected, making this the tenth consecutive year that collections topped the 70 million pound mark.
AFGE is proud to partner with the NALC and the AFL-CIO to support our needy brothers and sisters, and we hope that you are able to participate. It’s as simple as leaving a few cans or boxes of food by your mailbox – we’ll take care of the rest.
Please tell your friends and coworkers about the Stamp Out Hunger drive this Saturday, May 10, and make sure to leave nonperishable food items by your mailbox for the NALC to collect.
In Solidarity,
J. David Cox, Sr.
President, AFGE
